Doctors and Professors

Over at the Weekly Themed Art Blog it's Doctors and Professors week. This is my little effort, and I can see you may be confused so here's the skinny

The Monarch of the day, King Charles II was also a regular visitor to
Covent Garden, which was home to his mistress Nell Gwyn. It is thought the King
enjoyed the puppet shows so much that a Royal Decree was passed, allowed Punch
& Judy men to call themselves “Professor”. Although there is little truth
behind this, to this day Punch & Judy performers refer to themselves as
Professors.

So there you have it. Photoshop only, no preliminary sketching and a self imposed time limit of 30 mins . I was going to do a Tom Baker Doctor Who as I missed Doctor Who week, but thought the better of it.

I'm not 100% happy with it but there's a lot I do like, and as an experimental break in strip work I think that it's acheived most of the things I wanted it to.

It's really quite sinister.

Punch and Judy is the most sinister thing going, Spousal abuse, animal cruelty, kids being eaten by crocodiles, and theft of sausages, all wrapped up in what is comically called "childrens's entertainment",well it's no Cheggers Plays Pop.

I think it's because I decided to go for ambiguous features on the puppetteer and fairly detailed puppetts that he doesn't seem to matter, it's all about the red eyed marionettes
